The government expects to permit the importation of vehicles for private consumption in the first quarter of 2025, State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe said.
According to media reports, State Minister Semasinghe announced that therefore, permission for the importation of vehicles will be granted by August this year.
He further revealed that under the first phase, permission will be given for the import of vehicles required for business and transportation purposes.
“Regarding the easing of restrictions on vehicle imports, the government will inform its position by August and how the restrictions will be removed,” he said.
State Minister Shehan Semasinghe stressed that it is not possible to lead the country back to the era of import restrictions by taking actions solely targeting the election. (Newswire)
