How international media reported President AKD’s election victory

National People’s Power (NPP) Presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s victory in Sri Lanka’s Presidential Election has made headlines in international media, with many referring to him as a Marxist Leader.

The CNN reported;

Sri Lankans elected Marxist-leaning Anura Kumara Dissanayake as their new president on Sunday, putting faith in his pledge to fight corruption and bolster a fragile economic recovery following the South Asian nation’s worst financial crisis in decades.”

Anura Kumara Dissanayake has been declared the winner of the island nation’s presidential election, according to the Election Commission of Sri Lanka.

The Marxist-leaning Dissanayake, 55, leader of the People’s Liberation Front (JVP) party and leader of the National People’s Power (NPP) alliance, won the presidency with 42.31 per cent of the vote in the election, the commission said on Sunday.”
