The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has instructed the Director of the Police Special Investigation Unit to launch inquiries into police stations that have failed to act on public complaints.
A probe by the Police Headquarters has found that several police stations have failed to comply with the circular and instructions of the Police Headquarters when dealing with public complaints.
According to the Police Media Unit, the IGP has instructed the Police Special Investigation Unit Director to launch inquiries into 125 such incidents identified thus far.
Regarding the probe into the 125 cases, investigations have been completed in 84 cases so far.
The Police Special Investigation Unit Director has made recommendations on 61 of them, and after confirming the allegations in 13 of those 61 files, nine officers have been charged and 19 have been given warning papers.
The 23 files expected to be submitted have also been charged and cautioned, and further investigations are being carried out by the Special Investigation Unit on 41 files.
The Police Media Division stated that among the officers who have been charged, there are OIC’s of police stations and they will be removed from their respective positions in the future.
The Division added that the Police Headquarters will continue probes into such inaction and will initiate disciplinary action against high-ranking Police officers and officers of other ranks who act in a manner that inconveniences the public. (NewsWire)
